The research considers the significant changes in culture, technology and wider society over the past 40 years and how these have shaped young people’s experiences and world views.
Drawing from more than 90 pieces of published research it explores health and wellbeing; identity, values and beliefs; behaviours and lifestyles; relationships; education and the future; and the impact of Covid-19.
The Insights Report highlights some of the key opportunities The Boys’ Brigade has to positively impact the lives of children and young people as a Christian youth organisation, focussing on how we can live out our values.
Providing access to Christian-based youth work in disadvantaged areas where young people currently have less opportunity than their more affluent peers to experience faith and spirituality in a youth setting.
Providing safe and inclusive spaces within local communities where young people can be encouraged and supported to build authentic relationships with trusted adults who provide a non-judgemental and compassionate ear.
Modelling the inclusive nature of the Kingdom of God, helping to equip young people to reach across the divisions in our society and to experience the hope, freedom, and community that life in Christ brings.
Empowering young people to believe in themselves and their God-given potential, providing opportunities for them to develop leadership skills and supporting them to encourage and build up each other.
There is so much we can learn from this report and about the challenges facing young people today, like loneliness, isolation and the impacts on mental health. It’s also an important reminder that what we do and what we offer young people within the BB in terms of personal growth, social development and a space to feel valued, can never be underestimated.”
