Over time, organisations grow, structures develop, and new ideas come and go. All of that is natural, and much of it is helpful. But every now and then, it’s worth stopping to ask a simple but searching question:
Why are we here?
At our foundation is a calling – not just a mission statement on the wall – but a calling to transform lives. To introduce young people to the hope of Christ. To equip them with courage, compassion, and character. To walk with them through the pressures of modern life and show them that faith is more than rules or rituals – it is relationship.
Our young people face challenges Sir William could never have imagined: a world constantly online, scrolling through comparison and noise; a culture that tells them their worth is earned, not given; an anxiety that whispers they must figure life out on their own.
The BB should be the opposite of that.
We should be the place where they hear a better story – that they are loved, capable, and chosen. That service matters. That community is stronger than isolation. That Jesus is not a historical footnote but a living, active hope for today.
But that requires something from us as leaders.
It asks that we lead with conviction, not convenience. That our enthusiasm for drills, camps, and games never outruns our passion for spiritual formation. That we remember we are not just instructors of activities – we are shapers of souls.
So, here is the challenge – for me as much as anyone: Let’s be intentional. Let’s be brave. Let’s be disciples who make disciples.
May every night, every parade, every conversation reflect the heart of why we exist.
To advance Christ’s kingdom.
To build young people up.
To change lives – one relationship at a time.
That is who we are.
You plant, others water, God makes things grow.
