Spotlight on The Bahamas

Autumn 2024
Shane Oliver

Leader, 23rd Bahamas

Recently BB Bahamas has hosted a series of community outreach initiatives aimed at addressing local needs. These included beach clean-ups, voluntary cleanings, and educational workshops on environmental conservation. These activities not only provided immediate benefits to the community but also help to a instil sense of social responsibility in young people.

BB Bahamas does face challenges as well. The organisation relies heavily on donations and fundraising efforts, which can be unpredictable. Another challenge is keeping young people involved when there are lots of other interests and distractions.

To address these issues, BB Bahamas is actively seeking to develop new partnerships with Churches and schools. We hope to be able to expand the reach of the BB by establishing new Companies in underserved areas, in doing so providing more young people with access. There is also a focus on integrating technology into our activities to make them more relevant and engaging for young people today.

This quote from Sherman Bullard, a leader at 23rd Bahamas in New Providence, encapsulates the spirit of the organisation: “Being part of the BB has been a transformative experience. It is inspiring to see the growth and development of our young members, knowing that we are shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”

Jeremy, a young person in BB Bahamas, added: “BB means a lot to me. It makes me feel really happy and makes me feel like I belong somewhere, and I am grateful for the opportunities to learn and grow.”

Shane completed the first year of his KGVI Youth Leader Training course at Carronvale House in 2023, and returned this summer to complete his second year.
