UK Parliament Week

Autumn 2024
Annie Waddington

Senior Partnerships Officer, UK Parliament

This year UKPW takes place from 18th to 24th November and you can sign up to take part and get your free resources at ukparliamentweek.org

Your free kit includes a booklet tailored especially for youth groups. Each section includes information to help build your own knowledge, plus activity suggestions to bring UK Parliament to life with your group, from games and crafts, to discussions, quizzes and puzzles.

All activities have suggested suitable age ranges, but you know your group best so feel free to age up or down and make adaptations. It’s your UKPW, so pick and choose the resources that feel right for your group, their abilities, and the time you have available.

The UKPW kit also includes bunting, stickers, a Victoria Tower pop-up ballot box and a special item – the Give Way card game – a great way to pick up some parliamentary know-how while having fun!

Last year UKPW reached over 1.6 million people, including thousands of youth groups so sign up today and make sure your group doesn’t miss out this year!

Need some inspiration?

With over 10,000 activities last year, UKPW was celebrated in all sorts of ways:

  • Debates and quizzes
  • Discussing issues that matter to young people and holding votes
  • Creating petitions
  • Baking, crafting and colouring
  • Meeting your MP, a member of the Lords, local councillors, mayors, MSs or MSPs – either in person or virtually

Share what you’re doing

It’s great opportunity to share if you’re getting involved in UKPW, and it can also create some publicity for your group locally. Remember if you are posting on social media to use the hashtags #BoysBrigade and #UKPW

Examples of UKPW in different BB groups

12th Inverness

Drew Hendry, who at the time was the Member of Parliament for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey, went along to 12th Inverness (pictured above) to speak to the Company age group as part of UKPW in 2023.

He spent time talking about life as an MP and answered lots of questions – including a request for a four-day school week! The group also discovered that Drew is a former BB member himself.

3rd Enfield

Members of 3rd Enfield (pictured at the top of this article) have taken part regularly in recent years, using both BB and UKPW resources to learn about how Parliament works and the action they can take.

Through UKPW they were visited by Feryal Clark MP, who represents Enfield North, and thanks to UKPW were able to build up links with multiple recent MPs whilst serving, who have engaged with other BB and Church activities at other times of the year.
