Check out some updates from our Young Leaders Network, our dedicated space for young leaders aged 18-26 to be informed, share experiences, build skills and grow as leaders.
Young Leaders Weekend
A successful Young Leaders Weekend was held at Carronvale House, Scotland, at the end of April, bringing young leaders from across the country together to learn, develop and share as a group. We caught up with Karl (1st Kempston) to find out about his experience of attending the weekend.
- Why did you sign up to attendthe weekend?
I’d heard what a great weekend it is, from speaking to people that went last time. They’d told me what an amazing weekend it was and how much they had learnt, so I wanted to get involved.
- What did you enjoy the most about the weekend?
I really enjoyed the networking. I loved the fact there were people from all over the country with different stories and experiences to share, as well as different ideas on leadership and activities.
- Were there any skills that you think you developed throughout the weekend?
I definitely developed my confidence as I would usually shy away from engaging with others, but I particularly enjoyed talking to everyone and finding out their experiences of being a leader. I also gained some valuable knowledge from the workshops that has helped developed my leadership skills.
- Are you looking to sign up for the weekend again next year?
Yes, 100%! I am definitely coming back next year as it was such a great weekend and a fantastic opportunity to build connections with BB leaders from across the organisation.
Elevate – Our New Development Course for Young Leaders
This autumn the Young Leaders Network will be launching a new development course, called ‘Elevate’. This in particular will focus on young leaders as they transition from a young person to a young leader.
The content of Elevate has been created in partnership with young leaders and their experiences of becoming leaders in their own Companies. The course will assist in developing skills and knowledge that young leaders feel they need to successfully step into leadership and develop confidently into their role in their Company. This course is particularly aimed at young leaders aged 18-21, but anyone 26 or under can attend.
The course will be delivered virtually, across six evenings. Each evening will be approximately 90 minutes and will cover topics such as:
- The changing expectations of your new role.
- Developing your leadership skills.
- Building positive relations with others.
- Negotiating, influencing and finding your role in your Company.
- Practical skills in planning and delivering programmes.
The first Elevate course will start on Tuesday 1st October at 7pm and will run for six weeks, until Tuesday 5th November.
